Story Beneath the Story

Writer: Erin SErin S

3 weeks into my first Authors Publish class as an instructor and I am still riding the high. Students are engaged, and I can contribute to their conversations promptly (I was worried that the added work of having a student intern at school may affect my ability to be active, but she's been great too!).

I created some new exercises to help with smaller craft components that have come up during the course - things like how to use the environment to further the mood/emotion you want to portray - and I am going to do some of them myself as well. Maybe introduce them to my writer's group during our next 'Write Night'.

Submissions have slowed to almost a halt as my life has picked up in so many other directions, though. I need to set aside some time to go through submissions and get those short stories back out there! Cast of Wonders is STILL holding onto Baba Yaga and I can't help but feel hopeful this is "the one" that gets their 'yes'!

I also added more to my 'pitch' page after registering my ideas with the WGA to prove they were mine first in case of pirating. I hope that doesn't happen, but I also know, if I don't put myself out there, I have less of a chance of landing anything. At the same time, I notice most writers don't put their pitches on their website and I wonder why. Is it just fear of pirating, or is this some hidden rule or faux pas I'm not aware of?
